India's largest tea maker by sales Tata Tea soared 3.39% to Rs 537.95. It topped the gainers in BSE's A group.
Infrastructure developer IRB Infrastructure Developers flaed up 2.82% to Rs 102. It was the second biggest gainer in A group.
Mumbai-based Great Eastern Shipping Company climbed 2.56% to Rs 172.05 as Baltic Exchange's chief sea freight index Baltic Dry Index which tracks rates to ship dry commodities, hit a four-month high on Thursday, 19 February 2009. The scrip was the third biggest gainer in A group.
Automobile finance company Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services moved up 2.52% to Rs 197.65. It was the fourth biggest gainer in A group.
Heavy engineering and industrial equipment maker ABB rose 1.82% to Rs 400.35 after the company reported higher than expected net profit in the year ended December 2008. ABB's net profit rose 11.3% to Rs 547.41 crore on a 16.1% increase in total income to Rs 6967.45 crore in the year ended December 2008 over December 2007. The company has recommended a dividend of Rs 2.20 per share of face value Rs 2 each for the year ended on December 2008.
The company said its book order rose 5% to Rs 8054.10 crore in the year ended December 2008 over December 2007. Its total order backlog was Rs 6161.80 crore as on 31 December 2008.
