Sensex gains 27 points - 19-02-09

The Sensex opened with a marginal positive gap (20 points) at 9,035 and moved up to a high of 9,112 in morning deals. Selling in heavyweights saw the index drop to a low of 8,978 - an intra-day swing of 130 points. The Sensex finally closed with a marginal gain of 27 points (0.30%) at 9,043.

The BSE IT index gained over 2%. The BSE Capital Goods index was down nearly 1%. Market breadth was bearish - out of over 2,470 scrips traded, over 1,295 declined. 

Wipro moved up over 5% to Rs 220. Infosys gained over 2% at Rs 1,208. TCS was up nearly 2% at Rs 490.

Grasim added over 2% at Rs 1,374. Maruti, HDFC, M&M, Reliance Infra ONGC and NTPC also finished with gains.

Hindalco dropped over 3% to Rs 40. ICICI Bank was down over 2% at Rs 361. ACC, L&T, HUL, DLF, SBI, Reliance and RCom also declined.

Total market turnover (BSE+NSE) was Rs 39,792 crore. Educomp Solutions was the most active counter on the BSE with a turnover of Rs 235 crore followed by Reliance (Rs 149 crore) and United Spirits (Rs 140 crore).
